Medicine is not just applied biology (or applied biochemistry or applied genetics, for that matter), because the object of medical intervention (cure and care) is not only the physical body but also the social person who happens to inhabit or rather be that body. Although this may seem rather obvious, many problems in health care occur because this apparently obvious difference is neglected.
