Health is a Verb

In dictionaries, and even at the World Health Organization, health is a noun.  You might have health, lose health or regain your health. Health is an adjective, is healthy walk, healthy diet, healthy attitude. Health is also a fake adjective (for marketing): health clinic, and health centre, health insurance. Thus, health clinic actually means sickness clinic, and health centre might mean fitness centre or medical centre. Health insurance is just a fancy name for medical insurance. We also use health as an interjection, when delivering a toast “Health!” And of course health can also be an adverb, as in running and eating healthily.

VerbWordsCalvin-partWhen have you seen health as a verb? Many nouns and adjectives have become verbs, as Calvin enjoys explaining to Hobbes. Fish is a noun – and a verb. Google was a noun, now it’s a verb as well.

What Happens after a COVID-19 Cure?

What happens after a COVID-19 cure? This post was originally written last October, but apparently, nothing has changed. “The Donald”, claims to be cured of COVID-19. Some people are happy for Donald. Some, not so much. But nobody cares about the cure. “The Donald” was news. COVID-19 cured? Not-news. Continue reading

What we don’t know about COVID-19

COVID-19 has been with us for almost a year now, and we know a lot. But there are also a lot of things we don’t know about COVID-19, and lots of confusion. Benjamin Franklin once remarked that the beginning of wisdom is the knowledge of your own ignorance. What do we know about COVID-19? What don’t we know?

We know COVID-19 is caused by a virus. We understand the life cycle of the virus, what cells it prefers, how it enters our cells, and how it spreads from one person to another. But there are lots of things we don’t know. Continue reading

BLOCKED – COVID-19 – BLOCKED

A few days ago, I woke up to this. I had published a draft of my COVID-19 book on Amazon in mid-August. In mid-September, I made a number of updates, additions, and deletions, and uploaded the new version. It normally takes a day or so for the new version to appear. I waited… and then I saw the above image.

No warning, no discussion, and no statement from Amazon. The book has been removed from Amazon sales and blocked, such that I can no longer edit the on-line version.

It took some hunting via the suggestion above “Contact KDP Customer Service” for more information to find a path to send a message, asking “What”s up”.  I had worked very carefully to ensure that my book was fact (not conspiracy theory) based. I also worked very carefully to ensure I didn’t break any KDP rules.  Turns out, that’s not the problem.

Eventually, I received the response below from Amazon. In short, “Due to the rapidly changing nature of information around coronavirus, we are referring customers to official sources for advice about the prevention or treatment of the virus.”  English translation: “we’re covering our butts”.  Amazon has published LOTS of “information from unofficial sources (whatever that means) about COVID. Maybe they got in trouble? Or maybe they’re just afraid. Note: Amazon does not mention COVID-19 CURES, the topic of the book. Officially, there are no COVID-19 CURES.

Since my book is not considered “official information”, Amazon refuses to allow me to publish it. That’s it. There is no debate, no discussion, no escape. It’s blocked.

I will publish the book via other sources. It might take some time for me to decide where to publish. If you want a copy, drop me a or comment and I’ll keep you posted.

If you purchased the draft version on Amazon, you will not be able to get updates due to the Amazon ban. Drop me an email and I will be happy to provide you with updated versions.

If you have any suggestions on where I should sell the book, drop me a note: tracychess@hotmail.com

If you are interested in reviewing the book in it’s current (draft) state, drop me a note. I’m looking for knowledgeable and will provide a PDF proof copy if you qualify.

to your health, tracy

On the Healthiness of Disease: Part 2, The Healthiness of Injuries

In Part 1, of this series, we explored the healthiness of disease at levels of species and community. Each species, and each community within a species, needs to cooperate and compete with other species and other communities. Competition expands abilities of individuals and of the species. Individuals compete to expand their boundaries, but this can lead to disease in individuals.

A certain level of disease in individuals is essential for the health of communities and the species.

In this section we look at injury diseases. We might not think of injuries as diseases – but the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases (WHO/ICD) clearly recognizes injury diseases and has many injury disease codes. In addition, injuries are often caused by illness.

Many diseases cannot be diagnosed until injuries are present. Continue reading
