Is it a Placebo Effect? or a Suggestibility Effect?

PlaceboeffectsMagicMaybe you’ve heard of ‘placebo effect’.  Placebo effects are, according to the Oxford dictionary of the English language: “a beneficial effect produced by a placebo drug or treatment, which cannot be attributed to the properties of the placebo itself, and must therefore be due to the patient’s belief in that treatment“.

First we need to clarify the error made by Oxford dictionary editors. Placebo effects do not actually require a placebo drug or a placebo treatment. Real medicines, real treatments, also have placebo effects.  Continue reading

The Healthicine Creed – Every Illness Can Be Cured

The Healthicine Creed has been a work in progress for several years – this post was an earlier version, which was updated many times before it was initially published.

The most up to date version of The Healthicine Creed can be seen here.

The Healthicine Creed

Health is whole. Health is wide and deep.
Health is slow and steady.
Health is honest and true.
Health enables freedoms.  Freedoms enable health.
Health encompasses all life processes, from genetics to Gaia.
Health is a verb. “To health” is to make healthier.
Health is a noun: A healthiness is a measurable instance of health.
An unhealthiness is a potential for improvement in health.

An illness is a hole in the health of body, mind, spirit and community.
An illness has a cause and consequences.
Every illness is rooted in unhealthiness.
Parasitic illnesses attack us.
Causal illnesses are our habits and lifestyles.
Injury illnesses are holes in body, mind, spirit and community.
Blockage illnesses block healthy bodies, minds, spirits, and communities.

Chronic illnesses have chronic causes.
Symptomicines can create and facilitate chronic illnesses.

Every illness can be cured.
Causal cures stop the progression of an illness.
Healing cures repair damage and defend against illness.
Transformation cures address blockages.
Preventatives cure future illnesses, before they occur.

Health is the best preventative.
Health is the best cure, the only true cure.

Everyone has a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of healthiness.

The Myth of Alternative Medicines

The world seems divided on medicines. There are medicines your doctor recommends, and alternative medicines. Doctors typically recommend patent medicines (although they seldom use that name). Some doctors promote alternatives: natural medicines, others prefer Chinese medicines, others ‘traditional’ medicines.

What are Alternative medicines?

The US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) tried to define alternative medicines, in a 2006 ‘draft guidance’ on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Products and their Regulation by the Food and Drug Administration.

They failed. Continue reading

What is Healthicine? What is the theory of Healthicine? What is the philosophy of Healthicine?

What is healthicine?

Is it a word? (it’s not in the dictionary). Is it theory? Is it a practice?  Philosophers contemplate the difference between theory and reality – and wonder if reality is just another theory. Mathematicians and scientists define everything as a theory, to be tested.  That’s their theory, and they practice it diligently. Eastern philosophies and the martial arts teach that the difference between theory and practice is “practice”.  Practice, practice, practice. Comedians joke “in theory, theory and practice are the same, in practice, they are not.” They are right, and funny too.

Is healthicine a theory.  No.  Healthicine is a lens.  A way of looking at things. A tool we can use to see things differently, thus more clearly, and  farther. Continue reading

The Three Cures and their Two Dimensions

IMG_0487e-f-2Can you name the three basic types of cures?Every illness can be cured. If we are to cure every type of illness, we need to study three categories of cures. Some illnesses need only a single type of cure.  Some need two types of cure.  Some need three types of cures.  What are the three categories of cures?

I have written, and blogged about cures for several years.  I was surprised to learn that the word cure is very poorly defined, and that there are no functional scientific definitions of cure. Medical researchers and writers avoid the word cure, using vague terms, like treatment and reversal of disease instead. I searched many dictionaries and medical texts for clear definitions of cure and found mostly simplistic nonsense.  I have blogged about this, and the word cure, in many posts.

And then one day, I found the answer.   Continue reading
