The Duality of Cures

When aiming to cure any illness, we focus our attention on cause. Cause and effect is a metaphysical problem for philosophers, who continue to argue, after centuries of debate, about its existence, or non-existence. The problem is simpler with regards to cures. When we cure an illness by understanding the cause, we prove that cause. We might be wrong, but a cure is a cure! Of course, living entities use cause and effect for many purposes, to create and maintain life, to live, to grow, to reproduce, and to evolve. Most causes produce healthiness, not illness.

When working to address a cause to provide a cure, we must always be aware of and attend to the Duality of Cause. Every cause has two sides. As a result, and two ways to cure.  Continue reading

It’s a fun question… Almost a joke. Yes, the mugshot is me, myself and I, in the smugness of youth. I loved the Mad Magazine guy. His ears matched mine.

The standard definition of a placebo effect can be summarized as “an improvement caused by a treatment that cannot cause the improvement”. A “placebo effect” is a paradox, an oxymoron, impossible. It can’t possibly work.

What causes warts? Does touching a toad cause warts? What about a warthog? There are some theories, but none that hold up to scientific scrutiny. What cures warts? Apparently, we have no idea. In 1996, ten percent of warts were cured in a clinical study.  Nobody cares. Two years later, in 1998, the study was replicated. Nobody cares even less. What’s going on?

Dr. Andrew Weil says – everything cures warts, but nothing cures warts. Weil often asks doctors for their cure stories. Every doctor – according to Dr. Weil, has seen warts cured by the strangest things. But officially, there is no cure for warts.  Warts cured is not medically defined.  Was it always like that? It’s an interesting question. Continue reading

Epidemiology studies statistical causes of disease and patterns of disease in societies, but also makes no attempt to identify “root causes”.

Why are there no studies of root causes?  Continue reading
