CURE Quote
The remedial theories frequently take the form of denying that there is any such thing as a just punishment: the task of society is to cure its criminals, not to punish. The remedial theory, in so far as it is a justification of punishment at all, sees the justification in terms of the improvement of the criminal. The great weakness of the remedial theories as a justification of actual penal practice is that so few of the current punishments inflicted on criminals can have any serious claim to do any good to them or improve them in any way.
